The finals for the West49 Canadian Open are on Sunday. Who will take the crown?
So many Toronto/GTA skaters in the running and putting together big runs on the course. Grant Patterson, Morgan Smith, Chris Gibbons and Jesse Landen all skated well.
Here’s a taste of some the action from today… (PYF, Chris Gibbons and Justin Strubing…)
Not to count any riders out on Sunday but Paul Machnau, Dennis Busenitz and TNT will definitely be the ones to watch in the Finals…

It’s starts this afternoon. The West49 Canadian Open. Toronto’s local heros will be competing with amateurs and pros from around the world. The biggest and best contest to hit the GTA and your chance to see skateboard superstars like Nyjah Huston and Eric Koston.
Heading down to Hamilton to catch the action. Hoping some of our locals make it in to the finals on Sunday…

So stoked!!! I get to continuing in my Rock the pain away therapy. Got word that the Hard Luck 5 are in town. RYE COALITION are playing the Mod Club tonight. It will definitely be an in your face ROCK night. They kick off the set followed by Priestess and Nashville Pussy…
The show will pack quite a punch. Heard the Hamilton show was amazing considering it was a Monday night show. Interested in seeing them again, especially the new songs live. Their latest album produced by superstar producer Dave Grohl is awesome.

With the first day of Fall upon us and the dreary weather I was hoping to have a relaxing time in this weekend. Friday was too bizarre.
I was just tooling around on my computer, got word that there was a homicide in my friend’s building, in the stairwell a flight of stairs down from his place. Creepy. Quite a eerie call to get in the evening before bed… My sister and brother in law stopped by a short time later to crash. Crash indeed. They arrived and my garage door gradually fall apart right after they parked their bikes inside it. NOT a fun thing to deal with around midnight. The “entertainment” continued as bro-inlaw and I tried to minimize the damage and bring a “soft landing” to the untamed beast of a door. Must have been really captivating as an elderly gentleman who had strayed from his home decided to stop and watch. I spent the next hour trying to get him home and ended up calling the authorites to help the poor guy. He didn’t know where he was, had no shoes, or jacket on this dark damp night. I suspect he “sprung” from one of the senior residences in the area but which one??? I ended up warming him up in my car in my driveway. The cop was helpful though perplexed by the garage door and turn of events my new old friend. At least the elder gentlemen was calm enough about his situation and everyone called it a night leaving the bizzarre scene.
The worst part to of all this. Fixing the damn garage Saturday morning. Extortion techniques!!! Brother in law call a company, that for now will go unnamed, who quoted one price arrived to substantially charge more for “PARTS” (the wheels for the garage door). There was nothing wrong with the originals. When asked why we were charged $300-$400 for parts they showed us that “the old wheels” (not even the wheels from MY door but rusted ones from his pocket or truck) that “were garbage”??? Um, right! The BBB have been called. I’ve had enough excitement to deal with…
Heading to the ISIS show tonight to work off the aggression!!!

Okay. That’s it. From this point I am vowing to not drive on the 401 during the hours between 8 am and 8 pm. It took me 2.5 hours to get from Erin Mills Pkwy and Dundas to Scarborough Town Centre today. That is just wrong and I refuse to give in to the bullshit that is the transportation setup of the highways in this city. Driving along the 401 these days is as pleasantas getting 1000 lice come nest in your armpit hair. I have not been able to hit 100 km during daylight hours in the past five years now I think. So thanks for nothing 401. I’m done and over with you. Even if that means going through downtown and up the DVP to get to Scarborough.

When I saw the article in EYE regarding the Polaris Music Awards I was routing for Owen Pallett’s FINAL FANTASY. The idea to have such a Canadian Music award is GREAT. Unlike the Juno Awards it’s completely based on artistic achievement (as judged by 100 local and national music journalists and broadcasters) rather than pure sales. (The Junos of course celebrate more of the “Industry” side of the Canadian Music scene while this puts independent artist on a level playing field)
The nominees are all worth checking out. (Even with my stated fave of the bunch every one on the list has been on my iPod playlist at one time or another…GOOD STUFF!):
Broken Social Scene
Cadence Weapon
The Deadly Snakes
Final Fantasy
Sarah Harmer
K’Naan
Malajube
Metric
The New Pornographers
Wolf Parade
The winner was announced last night!
YEAH YEAH YEAH
FINAL FANTASY!!!
