Harrassment by Best Price Movers’ telemarketing

I continue to get frequent voicemails from a company called Best Price Movers. Although I’m not moving, I get calls all the time.

On April 19th, I called for the second time to ask them to remove me from their calling list, and was told that my number would be removed. Well here it is at the end of August and I had another call from them today!

The worst part about it is the stupid fake accents these people are using when leaving a message. I’ve put a link below so you can hear what they sound like. And, the guy doing this stupid fake accent, doesn’t sound half as bad as another accent they do when they call saying that “it’s Boris”.

Listen to the voicemail spam here.

I’ve even called them after April 19th, asking to be removed AGAIN. On one occasion, the guy I talked to told me that I should have been given some confirmation number that I’d have to tell him in order to be removed.

Funny thing, no one at any other time told me about this alleged confirmation number and nobody told me either that in order to stop being harrassed, that I would be required to do something. Now it’s my job to do something if I don’t want phone calls.

Most of the time you call any of the numbers they list in their message, you get patched through to more messages, with some idiotic enthusiast recording the other message.

Then if you press the button to be put through to the “foreman”‘s cell phone, you just get another message from the same enthusiastic guy who recorded the last message. If you press another button, you get a voicemail message in French, telling you to do something. I don’t speak French so I have no idea what the message says.

Regardless, there is no resolve of any issues with this company, and you never get to speak to anyone.

I don’t understand how these people think that they’re actually promoting business by doing this to people. If I happened to be moving in the near future, you can damned well bet that I would NOT USE Best Price Movers.

UPDATE: After reading the post at this site, I understand why my phone never rings when these idiots call.

you should give us their phone numbers so we can all have a go at them. :D

  2. jafer (unregistered) on August 30th, 2005 @ 10:11 am

If you listen to that whole recording, you’ll hear the phone number, repeated twice, at the end of it.

But it’s useless trying to call there anyway. You’ll just spend 15 minutes on the phone listening to other recordings.

Just to help you out, Jafer (and others!), here is the local contact information for Best Price Movers in Toronto:

    1027 Finch Ave West Suite/Unit 30103
    Toronto, On Canada
    Tel: 416-6572693 Fax: 4164856367
    E-mail: landlord@landlordsinfo.com

If I were you, I’d send them a letter by registered mail requesting them to stop. Let them know that their actions are illegal and you intend to pursue legal action. While it may seem an extreme step, having to call them more than once seems even more extreme to me.

I got the same yanush voicemail the other day! WTF! I never signed up on the list and already asked them last month to take me OFF!

cranberry – registered mail is definitely a useful tool when you mean serious business. i have used the same method for other companies.

  6. jafer (unregistered) on August 30th, 2005 @ 11:30 pm

Cranberry, thank you so much for that address. I went for a walk today and probably passed the building (trying to get some exercise since I’m not working). That’s right in my neighbourhood.

I had intended to stop at my website provider’s office, just to see them, but then I found out that they’d moved, when they used to be right up the street.

Maybe on tomorrow’s walk I’ll do a little visit to the Best Price Movers’ office and see exactly what’s going on.

I’ll be taking my camera with me (as I do on all my walks) – not my cellphone, but the digital, and perhaps I’ll get some good footage of something.

Geez, I feel like James Bond now… a little something to do, other than play Zuma.

I have called these people at Best Price Movers for 3 hours the other night and played them music, told them their messages are horrible, told them to put away the Thesaurus, etc etc etc for 3 hours.

I have complained to the CRTC which you can do on line…. I have complained to the Better Business Bureau which you can also do on line at http://www.bbbmwo.ca and the best one is I complained to their phone carrier…… Allstream….. I called the Presidents Office and they had Andrea Bartley at (number edited by Halai). She told me she had contacted them personally and I would not have any more calls from them and if I did to call her back. She was very helpful.

    Good Luck to all.

Please do not call Andrea for complaints at the Allstream office about Best Price Movers Ltd. You can call Allstream at 416-345-2000.

Hi. I am posting now even as these guys are moving my contents. It’s not a phone harrassment problem but have I got a horror story and half about their service! Details will follow later when I settle in at the new place. Too bad I found this thread too late (I googled “best price movers” and this was the first hit).

I too have been harassed by this company for over a year but only recently was I able to obtain any information on them. I operate a Legal Servces business and I am now in the process of having our law firm Mills and Mills send letters to the appropriate people including the CRTC in an effort to have this spamming nuisance stopped. The owner of the company is Hans Schauffhauzen, 1027 Finch Ave West, #3103 North York, M3J 3L6.
For the posted comments by Richard, Richard please call me and I can advise you how we can help.
If anyone else would like to contact me for information on legal assistance with this matter or any other legal issue you can reach me at PPL Legal Care of Canada, my phone number is 416-285-6738.

Conversly, I found their telemarketing quite useful as it couldn’t have come at a better time.

Due to unforceen events I needed movers quickly, and was amazed when Boris left a message on my answering machine offering low rates and the timing couldn’t have been any better.

They arrived on time, and moved my furniture with care, quickly and I was very satisfied with the service. I would definitly call them again should I plan on moving in the future

i guess there’s always a silver lining out there… somehwere. :) glad that at least one person found them useful.

i think they just need to lay off doing repeat calls to people who are obviouslynot interested.

I get calls from BORRIS 1-2x a month. He has what sounds like a Russian accent. When i call the number he left it is always busy. I would love for the calls to stop.

  15. Susan (unregistered) on October 20th, 2005 @ 3:35 pm

    Apparently if you call
905-695-0830 you can have your number removed and they apologize. I will see if this will work.

I have to tell you, I have had the WORSE experience w/ “Best Price Movers”….they tell you one thing on the phone, then when their guys get there, the story all changes. In short, they refused to move my stuff, and I was left with finding a new mover, and I had to leave the SAME DAY. They were very abusive (swearing), and I got the same thing when I complained on the next Monday. I don’t know how these guys got their licence, or stay in business, but it sure doesn’t reflect Customer Service. They could care less about what your needs are, they just want the money. DEFINITELY a mistake to use them. I also wish that I found out about all of this beforehand.

I have gotten calls from them constantly (such as yourselves), and I finally called their office today – before I found this site. There is this long, rambling message that gives another number, 905-695-0830, to call to have your number removed. Conveniently enough, that number is out of service. I got a hold of a guy at Best who pleasantly told me he would remove my number from their list, but didn’t actually sound like he took my number down.
The first few times I got calls it was just funny. Now, not so much.
Thinking about a BBB complaint – assuming others have done this already.
    Would this get me anywhere??????

I was getting 5-6 calls per week, sometimes 3-4 per day for awhile!! I tried the numbers above to have my number removed and I too found out that they are out of service. So I tried something Old School and looked them up in the White Pages!!! I figured if they are even half way legit they’ll want to list their phone number!!! Anyway long story short the number I found seems to always get answered!!! I’ve had to call a couple of times but generally it stops the calls for a few months at a time. The last time I called I caught the guy in the shower with his girlfriend!!! So I was sure to keep him on the line for as long as I could!!!
Anyway I thought I’d share the number and let you all call him yourselves. You may even want to call him say at 3:00 am!!!
    The number is 416-822-6816

  21. Juri (unregistered) on December 3rd, 2005 @ 10:38 pm

Here’s a phone number that always seems to work for these clowns!!! Feel free to call them whenever you want!! Like maybe 3:00 am!

  22. shy (unregistered) on December 4th, 2005 @ 12:42 pm

juri – we heard you the first time.

  23. Evan (unregistered) on January 16th, 2006 @ 12:15 pm

We used their services and basically got robbed!!!

On the phone they tell you that they only charge $65.00 per hour and there is a two hour minimum.

    This sounds fairly reasonable.

My girlfriend and I wanted to move a television and two small pieces of furniture from her brother’s house to her house.

Since the homes are four blocks apart and we only have a few things to move we figured at most it would cost us $120.00 for the move.

The movers arrived at her brothers house took the furniture and arrived within 10 minutes. As soon as the mover stepped out of the

Truck he demanded that he needs the payment. My girlfriend was surprised and she suggested that he bring everything inside and then we can settle upstairs.

He said we have to pay now and it will be $240.00. When she requested a receipt he was very reluctant to do so. He gave us a receipt that did not have the break down of the charges. Reluctantly she paid the ransom for the furniture.

When the mover left she called the moving company. The man at the office told her that she didn’t understand and that this was all her fault. He said it was a three hour minimum and there is nothing he can do to help her.

I am certain that they are running this scam on many people in Toronto. For $500.00 we could have moved the entire condo!!. This will come to light and these people will be charged and arrested. On the phone they called me us some very rude names when we demanded our money back. If anyone has any suggestions of what legal actions we can take please let me know. If anyone has a similar story please post it as well.

Just had another call from these guys myself, found this page and phone the # to try and end this stupidity. He (sounded like a watered-down Boris) appologized, and said it would be taken care of. Having read above that folks doubt that they take down their number, I asked him to repeat it to make sure he had it correct…he said he could not as he’d already typed it into the computer and it was ‘gone’ for processing. As of next friday something will be happening (could not understand something about the list I think) and I will not be called ever again. He appologized again. I told him that I found it a bit sketchy and that I didn’t think he’d taken my number and that I doubted he’d be taking me off any list. He then assured me he would … lol…I won’t hold my breath.

Just talked to Allstream…not much help other than suggesting to call the number in the message, but they did give me the number to the Canadian Marketing Assoc. to ‘blanket’ remove my name/number/address from their 800 or so member companies’ calling/mailing list. Calling the # basically ends up directing you to their website where one can find a link to their DO NOT CALL application page…it takes your info and then you are removed from any lists that their members have you on (can take up to six weeks according to the message). Anyways, I filled it in, hope it works. Link follows:

    Hi all,
I have been harassed by them for 4 years. When I moved, I did not change my phone number. I complained to Bell Canada and my current local phone provider Rogers. They could not help me. I removed my name from their bloody mailing list close to 10 times.
The guy puts on several accents. Usually he is named Boris but he has a medley of phony accents. At times it’s entertainment, but I get quite annoyed. His calls are sometimes weekly or monthly! He reads from a script!
What on earth can I do?

Best Price movers are totally harrassing me. They told me when I called them for the 7th time to remove my number, that they knew where I lived, knew where I worked, and if they wanted to they could get a key and take all my belongings from my home if I didn’t stop harrassing THEM!! Then, last Thursday at 2am someone buzzes my apartment, demanding that I let them in. The “gentleman” had a russian accent and when I asked who he was, he said his name was Boris!! Needless to say I have called the police and they said they would look into it. Whether or not anything actually will be done I guess I will have to see. Is there anything else I can do?

  29. abbas halai (unregistered) on February 16th, 2006 @ 12:26 pm

err…holy shit! i mean, wow, they audacity of this company and the tales that i keep hearing from all of you is mind boggling. they’re never getting any business from me or anyone i know.

  30. Dean (unregistered) on February 23rd, 2006 @ 9:08 pm

After being harassed by both boris and yanush for the last several years, I decided that something had to be done about it. There’s something about the whole best price movers’ outfit that is littered with red flags. Something isn’t right with this company and they seem to push the boundaries of acceptable practice.

I called the number I received and angrily told them to STOP THE CALLS as I wanted NOTHING to do with them. I was then promptly insulted by the lady on the other end of the call, I will not repeat what she said.

If our regulation and legal system is not able to stop these people from calling others, even after being specifically put on do not call lists, then the first thing that needs to be fixed is our regulatory system. This is not telemarkering–it’s well beyond that now. It’s downright harassment.

Is there no law or regulation being broken here? If so, is there anyway a law firm can start a class action against this company on every aggrieved party’s behalf?

  31. Alex R (unregistered) on February 28th, 2006 @ 8:12 pm

Hi guys, I just got a zillionth message from these “Boris” morons…

Some background: I called them several times during the last couple of years, asked to remove me from the list, to call me back, called their do-not-call number, called Bell – nothing worked. Bell suggested that I buy their anti-spam service and add their number to the black list. And what if they call from the different number? Add that number to the black list too, the Bell guy said. Very bright.

… and I called them back now and for the forst time I got to a real person. I asked to speak to Boris. Boris will be in the office from 9 to 10 tomorrow, I was told. I asked if I can leave a message for him. No, why, I was told, you wanted to speak to Boris, right? Call tomorrow. Then I asked the guy to tell this effing moron Boris do not ever call my number. In response the guy cursed at me in Russian!

I wonder what can be done to end this idiocy. If the legal avenues don’t work, let’s do some flashmob stuff. Let’s maybe call them in the midst of the night and ask about their prices for moving from North York to Siberia. What else? Any bright ideas?

  32. Alex R (unregistered) on February 28th, 2006 @ 8:14 pm

Oh, and their phone number is 416-657-2693.
Please feel free to call them! Press 2 as soon as the recorded message starts, and you will be transferred to (hopefully) one of their guys.
