Since starting my new night job, I have the pleasure of parking at the subway (for free since it’s after 3:00 p.m.) and taking two subway lines down to where the job training is.

Last night when I hopped on the second subway to come home, there were limited seats. So I went over beside a woman sitting in a side seat and said, “scuze me”.

She totally ignored me, didn’t move at all, and even though it must have been pretty obvious that I was headed OVER her to get to the seat, she still did nothing - and had a bag sitting on the other seat.

As I stood in front of the other seat, I asked, “is this your bag?” and she still ignored me. So I picked up the bag and moved it to a seat in front of me.

All of a sudden she wasn’t ignoring me any longer. She picked up her bag (and shook it, as if she were shaking off my ‘cooties’) and held it in her lap.

She said, “you could have axed me nicely to move the bag”. And I said, “well, I said, excuse me, what more do you want?”. She said, “well you didn’t ax me to move it” and I said, “I didn’t think I had to ax anything, I said excuse me”.

She shook her head, as if I was in the wrong and I just started to read my book.

That’s just the first part. A little later on the woman sprayed me with something. Yes, she sprayed me. And the funny thing is, that I thought something smelled on the subway. Actually, I thought it was her. I thought that maybe she needed a shower. Well perhaps she thought the same thing - that it was me that smelled, so she took out some spray can of something from her purse and sprayed it over at me. Then she went over and stood at the doorway, even though she didn’t get off for another 3 stops.

Now, I don’t know about you, but I’m not enamored with strangers spraying things at me. I’m also not too thrilled with the idea that I’m supposed to be begging someone (in the proper words that will appeal to them) to move their possessions off a seat they didn’t pay for.

I’m thankful that I only have to take the TTC to this neighbourhood for the training. Starting next week, I’m outta there.

*woohoo* Yesterday I got to fill up my tank with gas at 101.9! What a score that was for me.

Unfortunately, I had already filled it up a few days before that when the prices went down to 109.9. So it cost me $50 the other day (and then I stopped filling when I saw it up at $50), and yesterday it cost me $20 for a quarter of a tank.

Pretty sad when it’s a thrill that it only cost $70 to fill up with a tank of gas.

He’d also undergone quadruple heart bypass surgery earlier this year. He was 70 years old.

I watched Gilligan’s Island when I was a kid. I even remember watching the show he was in before that, The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis, which aired from 1959 to 1963. In those days, we only had 2 or 3 TV channels here in Toronto, and there was no such thing as cable… just antennas.

Although Gilligan’s Island only lasted on CBS from 1964 to 1967, I’m sure almost everybody had seen the show and knows who Gilligan was.

I couldn’t bring myself to watch the newest reality remake of the show.

Am I the only one in history who didn’t know that the free Flickr accounts are limited to 200 pictures?

Here I was, wandering around the city every day, taking pictures like a mad man and uploading then to my Flickr account, not realizing that there was a limit.

Maybe you’re going to tell me that when I signed up, they told me about the limit. If so, I don’t remember that, I only found out yesterday when some of my other pictures were now missing. They got bumped when I uploaded some more pics.

There’s my big problem… I love cloud pictures. So every time I see a cloudy sky, I’m destined to take another picture.

Anyway, I ended up having to take down two sets of pictures because I know that I’ll end up taking more Toronto pictures.

I have a Yahoo pictures account and it’s unlimited. If only Yahoo would integrate something like Flickr has so I could post the pics into my blog, or a sidebar. C’mon Yahoo, get with the program. I can’t afford a Pro Flickr account when I’m unemployed :(

I continue to get frequent voicemails from a company called Best Price Movers. Although I’m not moving, I get calls all the time.

On April 19th, I called for the second time to ask them to remove me from their calling list, and was told that my number would be removed. Well here it is at the end of August and I had another call from them today!

The worst part about it is the stupid fake accents these people are using when leaving a message. I’ve put a link below so you can hear what they sound like. And, the guy doing this stupid fake accent, doesn’t sound half as bad as another accent they do when they call saying that “it’s Boris”.

Listen to the voicemail spam here.

I’ve even called them after April 19th, asking to be removed AGAIN. On one occasion, the guy I talked to told me that I should have been given some confirmation number that I’d have to tell him in order to be removed.

Funny thing, no one at any other time told me about this alleged confirmation number and nobody told me either that in order to stop being harrassed, that I would be required to do something. Now it’s my job to do something if I don’t want phone calls.

Most of the time you call any of the numbers they list in their message, you get patched through to more messages, with some idiotic enthusiast recording the other message.

Then if you press the button to be put through to the “foreman”’s cell phone, you just get another message from the same enthusiastic guy who recorded the last message. If you press another button, you get a voicemail message in French, telling you to do something. I don’t speak French so I have no idea what the message says.

Regardless, there is no resolve of any issues with this company, and you never get to speak to anyone.

I don’t understand how these people think that they’re actually promoting business by doing this to people. If I happened to be moving in the near future, you can damned well bet that I would NOT USE Best Price Movers.

UPDATE: After reading the post at this site, I understand why my phone never rings when these idiots call.

I live in a triplex on the top floor. I have some nice enough Jesus freak neighbours living below me. And when I say Jesus freaks I have to say that at least they’ve never come knocking on my door to convert me, but I tend to steer clear of them in case they decide that it would be a good idea to do that (and Lord knows I could use a little saving).

Anyway, when my honey got home from work this evening he asked me if I had trimmed the plant in the hallway, because it looked great. I had over-watered it the other day when I bought some new plants and there were a whole bunch of brown leaves attached to it.

Our downstairs neighbours gave us this plant when we moved in 8 years ago.

But I didn’t trim the plant. And I have never trimmed the plant. The neighbours trim the plant.

I don’t know if they’re just being good Christians or something and looking after the plant that we are obviously making a mess of. Or whether they just want to take some cuttings to start some more plants of their own. Or maybe even that we’re pissing them off when they see these brown leaves hanging down over the stairwell.

Whatever the reason, even if it’s out of “niceness”, I find it a little nervy that they feel that they are able to come up to our place and touch our stuff (mom, Billy’s touching me!).

Perhaps they think it’s their right to touch it since they gave it to us.

I know, some of you are bound to think “WTF is wrong with you, I wish I had neighbours to look after my plants”, but really, is that not nervy to think you can just go up to someone else’s place and do something with their stuff?

I don’t touch their stuff. Maybe I should go with the flow and see if they’re interested in cleaning our part of the stairwell too? What would be a subtle way of manoeuvering that little intrusion?
