Buildings are Falling Down, Falling Down

TheStar.com | GTA | People scramble to escape collapsing building

Is it just me, or does it seem like the Danforth is prone to self-destructing buildings?

There was the one that went bang bump bump bump as each floor successively fell into the one below until the whole structure, but the front wall, was down. Then there was the one that went KA-BOOM, taking the ice cream parlour next door with it (or at least damaging it enough that it had to repaired). And there was the one that flamed to the ground. Now that building wasn’t under renovation, like those other two and yesterday’s roof and partial floor collapse, and a couple of humans helped it along, but it was in need of repair. (The land near Woodbine remains gapingly empty, whereas all the other buildings have been replaced.)

Why so many falling structures along this stretch of road? It’s not like we’re a third world country where collapsing buildings are to be expected. Does the city just not monitor the construction crews well enough and so they take advantage of the lack of oversight or were those buildings just poorly built in the first place or is it plain bad luck? Either way, sure is weird.
