Buy Nothing Day

Tomorrow is Buy Nothing Day. Doubt that I will abstain from consumer grid.

BUT… it never hurts to contemplate every purchase especially coming close to the holiday shopping season.

I find I don’t need some self-appointed group to make me ‘aware’. However, I think what would be more positive and effective, would be a day where instead of buying the cheap crap that mass-consumerism really represents, have a day encouraging people to shop at local retailers and buy something of quality, something that’s durable, locally made by someone skilled and paid well?

haha Little Black Duck. ‘Awareness’ is exactly the point. Buying local (products made and sold in our backyard) exactly the point. Having jobs exported to markets with lax employee/health standards to save on manufacturing costs has already come to harm thousands. Can you say lead paint laden toys?

Whether you need to be ‘aware’ or not is not the point. More people should consider how their choices effect the planet whether they are $1 or $1,000 or not spending at all.
