The Hockey Awards Have Them Ready For a Brawl

If you were wondering what the congestion near the Elgin Theatre? The wanna be Hockey Oscars? Yup. The 2007 Hockey Awards were on. Yes Sidney Crosby came away a winner. A well deserved nod to one of the best in the game. The event though, was long and drawn out. Award shows with lonnnnnng speechs are rarely capitvating. Was the event ill organized?

Maybe not there weren’t not missteps inside the beautiful Elgin Theatre but outside. The idea to block Yonge Street in the core near Dundas on the verrge of rush hour and down to one lane each way? WHAT? Totally insane!!! The usual gridlock was even more insane. So glad I was “merely” a pedestrian. Witnessed a fit of road rage too. Not sure whom I’m most upset with. The driver of a tow truck that nearly killed a cyclist making a rushed right turn off of Yonge Street or the board tux wearers and street dwellers that paid no mind. Luckily the cyclist didn’t end up under the truck and could ride away with his rippled front tire and next year’s awards will be in London Ontario. A good thing!
