Should Accused Be Tried As Adults?

Yes.

If true… it’s not like they were 8-year-olds and didn’t know that guns kill. They were two 17-year-olds who, maybe, intended to harm–and eventually killing–Jordan Manners.

Most times, you don’t point a gun at someone without intending to harm him. Most times.

What if it was an accident? Why did they run away and hide? Why didn’t they tell anyone? Again, they were old enough to know the difference and old enough to know their actions have consequences. Most importantly, they were old enough to understand that it takes a bigger man to admit he made a mistake. Even if that mistake killed someone. Especially if that mistake killed someone. Especially if he was a friend.

According to the Toronto Star, it took a coordinated raid of 5 different houses to find the first of the accused. The second man was only found after police released his identity to the public. He surrendered with his lawyer. He was old enough to call a lawyer.

One crucial question the defense has to answer is “Why did they hide for days?” Why did it take a coordinated effort by the TPS and ETF to find one, and judicial authorization to force out the other?

I believe in the law and in justice. If they can prove within a court of law that it was indeed an accident, then they don’t deserve a lifetime behind bars. If they can prove that they didn’t murder Jordan, then they deserve freedom.

Should they be tried as adults? Yes. Will they get a fair trial? I hope so.

I did not intend to write about this but/because I’m still angry.
