Blogtrotting: Thailand Passes Controversial Cyber Bill
This is unbelievable. It’s not to be believed. Thailand’s government has passed a bill which could effectively stiffle free internet speech in the country.
Daniel at Metroblogging Bangkok explains, that the “main effect of the bill is to outlaw any attempt at bypassing government censors to access any of the thousands of sites that have been censored due to their moral or political purposes.” It effectively means that if the government decides “that a political parties [sic] website is deemed threatening, the site would be banned.”
Blogging as a crime. Scary.

Very scary. I wouldn’t have expected to see that happen in Thailand. Shows how much I know about its culture and politics.
The Thai people are a very proud and strong people. They usually don’t take things lying down. Don’t be surprised if they fight back. Having said that, I’m unsure as to the size of the cyber community in the country, and how they would mount an effective revolt against this.
I’m hoping, this being the internet, that there will be ways to circumvent what the government is doing.
