MAC Girl in a Bikini
Scarborough Town Centre is growing. Lululemon just opened a store there. And MAC has a bikini model. Okay, not the best segue ever.
At first I thought she was a mannequin, but then she moved and I did a classic double take as the escalator lifted me away from her orangey complexion.
Several questions came to mind: How long has MAC been doing this? How much is she getting paid? Don’t people find this odd and degrading? What’s she advertising? Full body make up? How long has she been sitting there? Are those 2-inch heels?
As myriad questions floated through my mind, I couldn’t help but replay the last image I saw of her as I walked up the escalator. She had a hugely fake smile on as a mall patron waved at her. It seemed kinda sad.

Needs a picture. If she’s posing as a mannequin, it’s alright to snap a shot. Can’t quite imagine the horrors otherwise. And 2″ heels isn’t very appalling at all, even wearing a bikini.
It would have looked stalkerish. Yet it might have been a great picture. She looked so damn orange. Mayhaps it was the lights though. In any case, people shouldn’t look that colour. And she had very light blonde hair. Remembering it makes me sad still.
I agree with you Arvin, it may’ve looked stalkerish.
Posing as mannequins is all in the context. There have been tableaux using people in this way for the sake of art, but to substitute a human for a mannequin for the surprise value is a bit questionable in this context, and I wonder what it really says about how we view women. Women are so degraded around the world that people can’t tell the difference between what is using a woman as an object and what is legit work.
