Taming the Auto Lifestyle
It’s interesting to hear what people think of Toronto when visiting. Their answer often depends on HOW they see the city. Did they arrive at Pearson? Drive in along the Gardiner? Wheel in on a Greyhound bus or head in on the GO?
Torontonians’ love / hate with traffic, travel and the TTC continues but some still choose to drive in the big city. There are others who would rather not have the hassle or the expense of owning a car ($6,000 a year) by forgoing one altogether. Not impossible to “get your drive on” without owning a car. You can try carpooling to save cash or even rent a car by the day or a car by the hour as needed. Options to rent/share are getting easier for some living in Co-ops or some of those new fangled Condos in Toronto.
My friends apartment complex has been forwarded a several hundred dollar deal on Autoshare whose fees are normally a one time $100 membership (or $150 as a couple) plus deposit ($250). The new LEED certified condo M5V is also on the Autoshare radar. Living at this Condo will mean a FREE membership to Autoshare and access to the latest Hybrid cars in their fleet, the hybrid electric Prius which are nearly zero emission! (this car uses no fuel if you drive under 90 Km/h).
For those unafraid of savage parking attendants, high fuel costs and traffic your choices (and their ill effects) have just changed for the better! I guess this would make David Miller happy as he was someone pushing for a greener Toronto, KYOTO or no, wheter its using Diesel Hybrid buses or encouraging TTC funding. You can now drive greener or roll, walk, bike, skateboard or Ride the Rocket like everyone else to reduce our smog… Not bad!
