History outside your door…#1
What is the city’s oldest Grand Hotel?
It’s not the Royal York, or Hotel Victoria (although it’s the second oldest).
It’s the King Edward, built in 1903 at a cost of 6 million dollars. Interestingly enough the building’s architect was E.J. Lennox. Lennox was responsible for design of other Toronto’s treasures like Casa Loma and Old City Hall.
For the curious the Black Bull Hotel and Tavern claims to be the oldest Hotel in the city. When walking down Queen West you’d probably find it hard to believe that this place was founded in 1883!
