Chinese Lantern Festival
As I was passing by Ontario Place I noticed a dragon. It wasn’t a real dragon but it did catch my eye.
The first ever Chinese Lantern Festival being held in Toronto starts July 20, 2006 and runs througout the whole summer until October 1, 2006. See it.
Apparently, they (Ontario Place?)hired lantern building experts from China (Hong Kong?) to build these magnificent lanterns. I saw a few in person while they where transporting them. Red flowers about a foot and a half in diameter that look osm (read: awesome). I should have taken a picture. Dang. Next time.
Tickets are $25 ($20 for children 4-5 and seniors; younger than 4 is free). Visa is a partner so you could probably save through visaperks.
The grapevine is that these lantern building experts are being housed in (or near) Atlantis Nightclub. You know, the place where Lego Land and Playdium was? Yeah, that place.
The lanterns are being placed all throughout Ontario Place. Personally, I can’t wait to see them all. I also can’t wait to eat lots and lots of Moon cake.

Is there a health section in the festival. Is it possible to have displays at the festival for public viewing?
Not too sure about that. Not too sure what you mean by “health section” either. But good questions. I do know that one of the displays is of a Peach Orchard which symbolizes well-balanced life and hope. Peaches are symbols of health and long life.
Also, there’s bound to be stuff on sale, is that what you mean? Health stuff for sale?
If anyone is interested in saving money by purchasing tickets online, a friend of mine is part of an entrepeneurship program called E3 that is helping promote the event by offering an online discount. By going to https://secure4.ontarioplace.com/ and using the account “ace” and the password “festival” you can actually save MORE money. The process is simple, just have your VISA card ready and then the tickets will be displayed to you to print out. Just take what you printed to the front gate and you’re good to go!
OMG that’s AMAZING! Thanks for the tips on the discount for the Chinese Lantern Festival. A bunch of my friends and myself have been planning to go since we heard about it and we just SAVED $21 through buying the tickets online using the above link and inputting the login and password. So for all those people who want to go see it, go and SAVE!! IT WORKS!!
