CN TOWER TURNS 30!

Hard to believe that Toronto’s landmark of landmarks turns 30 this Monday. More shocking is that the CN Tower, at 553 M, has held the title of tallest free standing structure (phallic symbol?) for 30 years as well.

Bask in the glory while you can. Burj Dubai, due to be complete in 2008, will stand 705 M in the United Arab Emirates. So in a few years we will have to pass the torch to our fellow Metrobloggers. The proposed Solar Chimney in Australia is to be about 1Km tall sounds interesting too. Team a massive greenhouse, convection current and generating fans to power over 100,000 (originally they were aim higher with a bigger structure that could power twice that number but have scaled back to reduce cost). The size game continues but it is interesting what engineers are coming up with…
