Mono : A Most Dynamic Sound

I was mighty impressed with the Mare / Mono / Pelican show last night. Pelican were amazing and I was glad to catch their first ever show in Canada. Locals Mare opened things up with their eerie heavy slow drone and light to DARK vocals. The spotlight, for me at least, was stolen by the middle band, Mono.

Mono hail from Japan. Their songs are very melodic and have many interesting layers and changes. Heavy rock guitar to Rhodes piano. The drummer was BRILLIANT and played almost exclusively with mallets. I heard that there’s another show tonight in Hamilton. I just might have to go to the Underground (a club in Hamilton) and see this line up again. Don’t think I’ll get to see them this summer in Europe/Asia…

I suppose there’s always a trip to ROTATE This! or Soundscapes (Soundscapes, 572 College Street, Toronto, ON, M6G 1B3) to pick up their backcatalogue…
