Face Lift

So it seems Mississauga may be getting a face lift soon. The city is soon to host probably the most unique building in Canada. Unfortunately, it’s another condo building. My feelings on condo’s were posted previously. Here’s a picture below. Read the article for more information. Image courtesy MAD.

The still-unnamed $114 million concrete-and-glass condo promises to be one of Canada’s most adventurous-looking buildings. This is ironic for a city whose main architectural credits are its aging civic and performing arts centers, central library and the Pearson International Airport. Mississauga was a low-rise bedroom community for Toronto, but recently began sprouting office towers, businesses, industrial parks and high-rise condos.

much ado about nothing

As a person who has been unemployed for a few weeks now, not much has been coming up on the media for me to blog about. Mostly it’s politics which is pretty dry. Swoon has been doing a pretty good job of covering most of the major news events anyway. The weather is finally being nice to us, but that’s not really blog worthy. I’ve been trying to keep busy without much avail.

Attended Toronto Bar Camp which was interesting and may have been a decent chance to network but there was way too much geek-fever going on there and aside from a one or two demo’s it seemed all that most of the presenters wanted to do was show how impressive their hacking/coding skills were. I suppose in all fairness that is primarily what a geek demo entails.

The only other thing that I’ve been doing lately is eating, and I have to tell you that Mel’s Montreal Bistro has some of the best smoked meat I’ve had…EVER. i think the only sandwiches that compare are the salt beef sandwiches you get in the selfridges cafetaria, but the london team might know a bit more about that..

so theres also been a mass murder in southern ontario not too far from here and the biker’s are being pointed at as always. it’s like that anything happens wrong in the city, and noone can find an answer so it’s the biker’s fault. funny.

also there are dozens of posts and images that covered the immigration protests all over the US by our sister cities in the US. do check them out.

Discriminating Shareholders Gone Wild???

I was interested to hear that FORD Motorcompany’s CEO was taking 40% cut in his pay(definitely had some room to fall from that high level but it’s a worthy jesture). Of course this cut was based on Ford’s reduced market share and poor financial results. Ford Shareholders have also tabled 10 other proposals to “revitalize” the company including one that ties executive compensation to strides made in reducing greenhouse gas emissions. But not all shareholder proposals are progressive as that…

It seems that some groups (most notably the American Family Association - see hate group) have pressing Ford for some time. I remember back in November the AFA boycotted Ford for recruiting gay employees, giving them same-sex benefits and advertising in gay publications. It’s probably no “coincidence” that one of the 10 shareholder proposals to be reviewed May 10th will be an amendment to Ford’s discrimination policy. It seems like a sick joke but the proposal is meant to remove sexual orientation from Ford’s nondiscrimination policy ??? WHAT!!!

Of course sales in North American cars are down because Ford doesn’t discriminate enough…???@#!…

Whoa the sky is falling???

Was walking up Yonge this evening and had quite a sight. I wasn’t on the East side (where my friends live) per usual but started up on the College Park side. In any case I was more than alarmed to see a familiar apartment building south of College. Amato’s and few shops were already police taped because part the apartment ‘fell off”. Not exactly a brush with disaster but spooky…

What will be Thown from the Throne…?

A disappointing start for our PM? A whirlwind PR campaign in Afganistan, Canadian Defence posters in Washington D.C. subway stations, a suck up vacation in Cancun and still no resolution on Soft Wood Lumber. Hoping Mr. Harper’s untucked shirt during the Summit was not evidence of him turning into an Ottawa “fat cat”.

Hoping today’s throne speech (at 3pm EST) will really set the tone. Let us know what your thinking… God Bless Canada?

Bring the press back on the hill and let see how accountable ALL the MP’s can be. To make it a sporting bet I’m sure voters will give a majority government to the Party with Canadian’s interests at heart (not just people who want Alberta Oil…) How about Canada for all Canadians (that’s new, old, original, from the East, West, North, and South …well as South as Point Peele)

My guess on the throne speech. Big talk on crime & punishment as well as defence (with little mention to ways to prevent the causes of crime and keep the peace.) Seems to be a borrowed script but that’s where things sit thus far… Toronto be warned, you are not on the map anymore. Quebec holds the “key” to a majority government, according to polls. It’s going to be a rough ride but not if you speak up for yourself…

Whoa Heavy METAL!!!

The TSX has been very generous to its IPO’s of late. If you thought Timmie’s was a hot commodity…

The “new” Stelco shares were originally issued at $5.50 (when they were in bankruptcy protection). They traded $15 up to $19 today! Well METALS will be all the more valuable in the coming months. Steel, Silver, Copper, and of course GOLD…
