Canada’s Bridal Show

Since we recently have gotten engaged, my fiance and I have started to learn what we didn’t know about weddings. Especially the fact that when booking a hall or place to have dinner, dancing in… the magic word ‘wedding’ just seems to add $$$ to it.

Well, it would just so happen that while we are calling places and finding out what we want the Canada Bridal Show was announced. It runs from today (Fri at 5pm) to Sunday.

You can go here to get to their website with details and directions.

PS. I can’t decide what thoughts are supposed to be going through the mind of the bride they have on their main page…do I detect some worry, or just her looking tired after a day at the show?

i went with my best friend and her husband when they were getting ready for their wedding (i was the maid of honour). it was a nice place to go for some ideas… especially if you’re not too sure where to start. but when it came to my own wedding, i opted not to go. i already had some solid references from a few of my already married friends.

so by then, it was just a matter of emailing some of my friends, getting some contacts, looking at some websites, and contacting the different businesses.

man, if i had to do it again… i’d elope.

having said that… big congrats! :)

let us know what you thought of the show.

I haven’t had the time to go through all the free stuff we grabbed but still let me say that we both got 3 full bags of heavy reading. And I think we only covered about 1/3 of the show. (The fashion show ran from just after 7:30 till about 8:30 or so)

We were pre-”warned” that since only the “most prestigious” vendors would be there that things would be so expensive that our standards would raise, by which we judge every other offer. In other words that going would hurt us not help us.

I disagree with the results and shrug at the conditions. There were some very expensive, almost ludicrous offers there but there were a lot of things we “learned”. Such as the price of cakes, (if you want it professionally done) the value of taste-testing, (a 995.00 cake that tastes like dried bread vs. a 350.00 cake that was amazing at a different vendor) and the ability to interview so many photographers in one spot one on one. (Even if you don’t choose them to let them brag about what they offer and what you have to watch for with “The Others”.)

It was fun, lots of smiles going around. Tons more females than males by far..most without rings too. (haha, is this a place to pick up?) But also lots of males wearing this worried look. My take on that is this: If you haven’t discussed these details yet but are going ahead, throwing down cash, you already have enough problems with what you think a “relationship” is.

We’re going to go back on Sunday as well to finish what we didn’t see.
