Umoja

UMOJA (The spirit of togetherness) — okay, I am not making that word up. It is the name of this wonderful musical playing at the Winter Garden Theatre. It traces the history of African music from the oldest to the most current trends. On my way to the theatre (walking in that dreadful rain) I was saying to myself that I should have stayed home to work on my assignments that are due soon. But the minture I stepped in and heard the powerful drum beat I knew I was not going to regret it. It was amazing. It was energetic. It was lively and it was colorful! Everything that I love.
I couldnt believe how fast those men beat the drums…I dont think I have seen anything as fast as that. I dont know what it was like…and comparing them to machines would be a great insult. The whole experience was just fantastic! there is no other word for it. I dont want to talk much about it because I dont want to give it away. You absolutely MUST see it!! The entire hall was vibrating with that music…I can still feel it in my feet.
There are here only for one more week and till tomorrow (Nov. 15) the tickets are half price ($35). And They plan to return in February.
