407 tolls and License Renewal
Yesterday a ruling was made, (though it is currently under appeal) that the original conditions offered during the sale of the 407 ETR made under the Tories will apply. The main condition being that if you have unpaid tolls of 3 months or more and are not currently in arbitration you cannot get your license renewed.
A spokesperson mentioned that since there is technically no way to deny service on a Highway they have won the right to begin to take away driving privileges.
(The news correspondent interviewing the ETR spokesperson mentioned that the Highway company has received many complaints about the way in which they bill. The response though was that if you receive a bill or registered letter about an amount owing it is up to you to complain. If you do the 3 month limit will not apply until after the issue has been resolved)

the 407 is nothing but legalized highway robbery. literally! with the kind of growth this city is experiencing north of the 401, the 407 is needed! but, i for one, refuse to pay those ridiculusly expensive per km. toll rates.
My favorite is the (I think) $6.00 no-transponder fee.
btw, not to be confused with driver’s licence. it’s the licence plate that they will not renew.
it’s actually not new. this was enforced before but was ‘put on hold’ for the last five years. due to billing issues.
frankly, i still think there are billing issues. i know so many people who do pay but still get calls upon calls saying that they haven’t. it’s bloody awful.
i also agree with judy.
and the government sold the highway so they don’t own it! the way i see it is that they have no right to get the government involved.
407 - what a scam.
they should have to go through the same channels as other creditors.they don`t block your plate renewal for not paying your sears bill, nor does the government get involved to help sears collect,& people still use the store!$6.00 nontransponder fee.please.thats where the government SHOULD get involved because that with the ridiculusly expensive rates & interest is robbery
