Zombiewalk

The 3rd Annual Zombiewalk is taking place on Sunday 23rd October.

This is a non-commercial event, and anyone who wants to don the mask of the (n)everliving may participate. All that is needed is a desire to resemble the Alternatively Living, a couple of hours, and the rampant need for Braaaains.

Spread the word boys and girls and have some fun while you’re at it. Details available here.

Garbage Bins

The PhotoJunkie does a great job of visually explaining why the new Garbage bins are not worthwhile and not cost worthy. The bins really are…for lack of a better word….weird.

Leash Your Dog

I’m not a dog owner. And perhaps I will get critisized for what I’m about to say by others.

The law says that dog owners need to keep their dogs leashed at all times. This is the law. A very good law in my mind.

A law, though, that is often broken everyday, again and again.

So perhaps I’m not a dog owner but I am a parent. This past Saturday, I was playing with my toddler at the playground and all of the sudden, a german shepperd that had seemed calm and poised decided to make a mad dash at my daughter, barking like crazy at her.

I was making my way to stand infront of her. Natural instinct of most parents. We put our lives in danger to protect our own children - it’s in our genes. Just then, fortunately, the owners came for the dog and calmed it down. They were very apologetic and I did sense true sincerity in their voice.

But what kind of an apology would it have been if their dog did attack my daughter? Who only stood almost as tall as the dog itself when it was all on fours?

I was upset. Not just at that one incident, though that alone gave me grey hairs instantly, but at the fact that I see this all the time.

Dogs… unleashed. And this time, at a playground full of children.

This family explained that their dog is usually very friendly.

My argument is that it is still an animal. I know family dogs are seen as a family member and I will not argue that. I am an animal lover myself. Yet I would never assume that an animal is always predictable to us mere humans. Put in a different setting, they could react differently. This instance proved exactly that. My toddler wasn’t even aware of the dog’s presence until it was right up to her. So no provoking on her part what-so-ever…

So please… if you own a dog, please keep it on a leash when in public.

Bruce Trail

Fall is the best time, in my oppinion, for a hike. The leaves are gorgeous and the fresh, crisp air makes it easier rather then hiking in hot and humid weather.

For those interested in taking a day trip out of the city, The Bruce Trail offers many sections ranging from beginner to advance trails.

I did an advanced trail a couple of years ago when I was at the peak of my athletic abilities. I assure you… wear proper hiking gear. The up and down climb was steep and intense. It was an awesome workout that gave us a brilliant view when we finally reached the look-out point.

You can join the membership on the site to help support keeping the trail well preserved. Personally, I prefer buying their loose-leaf binder. It’s a practical reference book with map trails and descriptions. You can take the pages out that you need for your day’s hike and leave the rest at home.

A perfect Christmas gift for those that love to hike or take scenic strolls!

Choice

Now that i’ve finished with my OT cycle at work it was tough to decide on a definitive plan of attack last night. Missed out on RAMMER at the Bovine but i’m sure there will be other times. Caught Jay Gordon’s GREENLAND SHARKS fresh back in Toronto from Spain. Well worth it. Although many heads at Holy Joe’s were into the music there was only one super power dancer in the crowd. I give this dude the title since he had a most energetic presence and danced SOLO amongst the audience of couch sitters. Quite a contrast but at least DEATH BY ART SCHOOL got to feel the vibe up close and personal. Holy Joe’s is always an interesting spot to see bands. Small and personal, if you manage find it…

Everything To Do With Sex Show

It’s the time of year again… the Everything To Do With Sex Show will run from October 21-23rd at the Ex.

Purchase tickets for $17 online which will save you $3 from onsite ticket price.

Have I ever been myself? No. But I have been meaning to. I hear it is worth it especially for first timers (literally and figuratively speaking).

Segways

So the Segways have been officially banned from Toronto streets. Good to know I say. They’re apparently only allowed on roadways within city parks and thats about it. Personally I feel they’re an eyesore and a distraction and potentially very dangerous to the rider. Besides, nobody should be too lazy to walk.

Rain, rain go away, please come back another day

Okay, I don’t mean to whine but this isn’t exactly the fall I was expecting after such a wonderful summer. It’s just bitter and ugly. Why aren’t the leaves turning the nice gold that they do. It’s mid october almost. This annoying drizzle has got to stop.

Tim Horton’s new Smoothies…

I am an addict!

I always have loved my 8am, Medium Double-Double but for afternoons I have a new best friend. I love Tim Horton’s new Raspberry Coffee-Smoothies. Mmm good!

Now, the funny thing is that I cannot find any mention of these things on the Tim Horton’s website nor when I Googled the things. I suppose they are only available at the Tim Horton’s inside the plant where I work? Please tell me someone else has seen these things?

(They really aren’t smoothies. They are more like the flavoured cappuccinos.. the 4 flavours are Raspberry, Orange, Hazelnut and Butter Toffee.)

Police In Blue Ball Caps

It starts today.

Toronto Police start their first day on strike. They will be sporting blue ball caps and tie as they hope to win their battle towards better hours and increase in pay.

From what I understand, this strike is not like others. They still are committed to being on the job but there will be less service in traffic ticketing and more selective action towards 911 calls. I believe they are not allowed to be on ‘full’ strike.

However, just hearing about the decrease in their services makes me nervous. While I undersatnd that they will still be available to help keep our city safe, I worry about the 911 calls. Or even just the aggravation that so many moronic drivers might get away with dangerous driving.

Lets all hope this strike isn’t a long one. Having said that, I’m interseted in hearing people’s oppinion on this strike.
