Power to the PEOPLE

With oil and energy costs still climbing it’s frustrating to walk around Dundas Square. This is area HAS SO MUCH POTENTIAL. Instead it’s been squandered. A public space? If you call walking through a surround sound ad your idea of public dialogue…maybe.

What you have at Dundas Square is an echo chamber surrounded by megawatts of story high advertising. The ad space costs a pretty penny but how much bang does Mr. or Ms. Public get back. The site has only gets more and more disgusting with passing of each year. (How many MegaTron screens do we need!!!?) I say let them throw up story high solar panels (or some other form of Green Energy) and give electricity back to the grid. The power could then be channelled to those who NEED IT! Hospitals, seniors, the TTC, etc. We have scarce resources here. I would much rather see electricity go to an MRI or a Retirement home than power a dancing beer can.

Oh, come on. This sounds too altruistic to me.

Think of the poor dancing beer can if you take his power away. What will he do then… stand still?

We can’t discriminate between the MRIs, TTC, retirement homes and dancing beer cans… we’re an equal opportunity city - everybody deserves the funds they can convince the government they need.

As a matter of fact, I’ve been thinking of something to make use of that space in Dundas Square when it’s not being used (as in most of the time).

Stay tuned for my great idea as soon as I get my government funding.

Jafer-Too altruistic? Love to hear your great “idea”.

I think swoon one one is on point. Why should I be the only one scolded and skimping on power? The lights in Dundas Square probably use as much as a suburban block. Everyone should pitch in, it’s only fair.

man, i have not been to dundas square for a very long time. i never liked it anyway… not my scene. i was much more of a queen street person.

what i remembered was always being bombarded by a guy who use to chant out very loudly about god/jesus. not that i have anything against religion.

i just don’t like anyone blaring about it into my eardrum. ouch.

anyway, i’ll have to head to dundas square to see what swoon one is talking about.

i would, actually, like to see more solar energy being used. i don’t, however, have any clue how much that might cost regarding reconstruction and maintenance. i assume it would benefit in the long run?
