Water Parks
Today, we took our daughter to a water playground at one of the city parks - Kid’s Town.
While it’s not close to where we live, we have friends nearby who introduced the park to us. And I have to say… I was impressed. Small by very fun for the kids at an incredible price of a dollar per child.
I was taking photos of my daughter and my friends kids when one of the lifeguards came up to me and said, “Just to let you know, you can take pictures of your own family member and friends here so long as other parent’s children are not in the background.”
I knew that I needed permission to take photos… it said so on the sign coming in, so I went up to the manager of the place and she okayed me. She didn’t, however, tell me about this ‘no other kids in the background policy.’
This is new to me. I know why they do this, of course. They don’t want to be liable with any situation where some pervert gets a photo of kids… even if the intent of the parents/caregiver was to take a cute photo of their child, the belief is that there’s a risk of these photos getting into the wrong hands of pedophiles and child abductors.
Especially with the ease of the internet and such.
I understand - it’s meant to help protect our children. But it saddens me to think that I can’t even take a photo of my baby playing in the water as a way to capture a part of her happy childhood due to such fears as these.
I would have posted a photo of the water park but it was just too difficult taking one without a child running around in the background. It was a sunny day after all… perhaps I’ll have to go to the park before it opens just to capture a shot of it.
