Shy’s Good, Bad and Ugly #6

The Ugly…

Good customer service. Is there such a thing anymore here in Toronto?

The other day, my husband and I were standing at the local Dominion’s fish market counter, waiting to be served. No one was there at the moment so we waited, figuring it wouldn’t be long before some one returns to the counter. This is a Saturday, after all… and Saturday afternoons, in particular, are quite busy.

We waited. And waited. And waited some more.

Two times, we had to ask some one from the produce section to assist us in ringing it some one to the counter. And two times, we heard this message played over the intercom.

Finally… a young man came to serve us. And it’s not that I was THAT upset to have waited for awhile. Frustrated, yes. But not angry for having to wait 15 minutes just to get served.

I was angry for not getting an apology. Nothing. In fact, he acted totally indifferent.

Today, we stopped at the A&P in Stouffville on our way home. They were… excellent. Extremely nice and courteous. With a bright smile and a ‘Have a Nice Day’ to boot.

The Good…

If you want good customer service for your seafood purchase, you can travel 30 minutes out of town to get it.

The Bad…

You have to travel 30 minutes out of town to get it.

Patio Dinnerware Craze!!!

patio_plates.jpgToday, I headed over to Kitchen Stuff Plus and took a look at the amazing sale they have on melamine plates. 40% off! Like the pattern I selected?

I’m just saying… if you want to be up to par with the latest trend, this is where it’s at in regards to patio dinner parties. I mean… come on. The patterns and decor are to die for!

(I don’t really talk like that, btw.)

Beautiful Saturday

Dear God,

Today was what I call a beautiful day. See how the sky was blue with just a few white, fluffy clouds? And how the sun was warm but the air wasn’t humid and stuffy? And how about that breeze? Light and refreshing!

That’s how I want it. Everyday in summer. Sure, give us the rain every now and then but always come back to a day like today.

So what do you say?

Amen

As you can tell, I’m not much of a prayer. But I do hope the rest of Torontorians enjoyed today’s weather. Lord only knows how much we deserved it!

Reak-o-RAMA!

A couple of weeks ago, I complained about smelling rotting garbage here and there.

This week, I’ve come to the realization that it is a constant smell just a little north from where we live. And it is horrible. Everyday on the way to and back from work, I get hit with a wave of stench that is sour and pugnent.

Not fun at all.

I did some investigation and found that there is indeed a garbage dump near by. It’s not visible when driving by the area as it’s kept behind other buildings.

What’s worse is the residential areas around it. I feel sorry for those who live so close by. A slight wind or mere breeze can send the stench to travel quite far.

It’s not exactly the smartest place to have a garbage dump.

Toronto the Beautiful

Homedepot.jpgLook at the sky today, it’s absolutely beautiful.

And, no, I don’t work for Home Depot, I just happened to be on my way to Costco and this is right across from it.

Luckily I had my handy little camera on me, because I love sky pics (and landscape and building pics).

Thankfully the weather has gotten less humid these past few days, so people might not actually mind going out and getting some pictures.

On days like today I’m happy to drive around in my air-conditioned car, to beautiful spots with gorgeous, 3D clouds. I’ll get out into the heat for a minute, then drive back home in the air conditioning.

After that I’ll sit in the air conditioned house.

Have I mentioned that I also like air conditioning?

Shy’s Good, Bad and Ugly of Toronto #5

The Bad…

The politeness and well-mannered factor here in Toronto has truely declined rapidly since when I was a kid.

Yesterday, I was leaving the mall when I happened to push the glass door just as another lady around the same age as me was approaching the door from the outside.

She quickened her pace to reach the door as I was opening it. Now, I was halfway through and had every intention of holding it for her after I got out of the way. But what happened next annoyed and upsetted me so much…

She didn’t wait. She squeezed through while I was STILL THERE INSIDE THE DOOR FRAME! I practically was pushed aside, banging my elbow into the side of the door opposite of her.

No apologies of course. She just kept on going as if nothing had happened.

The Ugly…

The Ugly representation today is actually about me. More so… my temper.

I let her have it. I knew she was chinese so just to cut to the chase, I let her hear my anger in a tone and dialect that I was positive she would understand.

It was short and sweet, mind you. Just a couple of words to get my point accross.

The Good…

I’m ending off with the good for today because I happen to like happy endings.

The heat wave has lifted. At least temporarily. It was a fantastic day yesterday. Beautiful. And we’re told to expect this weather for the weekend.
