Toronto Authors Speak Up: Favourite Restaurants

I asked the Toronto authors to send in their thoughts of their favouriate restaurants. Here’s what they wrote back:

favourite restaraunt definitely has to be coco lezzone (http://www.cocolezzone.com) on college st. in little italy, superb ambience. perfect for a date, for a family trip, or just for a nice night out. they have the best cheese platter and beef carpaccio in town. might have to dig deeper in your wallet than you normally would if you were eating out in chinatown a lot, but definitely worth the trip up occasionally.

A quick Dose of Toronto

A fierce competitor for NOW, Eye, Metro and 24. Meet Dose. The trendy new, free daily magazine is growing on a daily basis for all the commuters out there. Very opinionated, quirky and funny, this new magazine is taking readership to places no other media has gone before…to your mobile phone! It’s smart, colourful and very ‘in your face’. It’s a multi-media brand for young Canadians by young Canadians.

You can shop for restaurant and club listings, TV and movie listings, create a blog, read reviews for nightlife and other activities, and the website itself allows you to be extremely interactive. Check it out at http://dose.ca

TORONTO THE GOOD

Spring is in full swing! So much to see and do. When you’re not enjoying the weather you should check out the latest SPACING mag event this Tuesday Night…

“Toronto the Good. It’s a fundraising event for Spacing and [murmur], the local cell phone story-telling project. The fine people at ERA Architects, who recently restored the Distillery District, are providing the space — Spacing and [murmur] are providing the party’s programming.

The night will feature a number of unique presentations, including a short talk from Pier Giorgio DiCicco about beauty in the city, Toronto’s poet laureate. You can play the “Name That Toronto Intersection” game, help create a giant map that will show where Toronto lives and works, or gaze up at over 1,000 images of Toronto (captured by the city’s award-winning photobloggers)”

Music for the event will be provided by DJs Will Munro and Christopher Thinn.

TTG is also part of Toronto’s inaugural Festival of Architecture and Design.

The sixth annual Doors Open Toronto, our city-wide event celebrating Toronto

Spring has sprung

So it’s that time of year again when the conversation in the elevators and around the water coolers goes towards, “When is the warm weather ever gonna get here?” It keeps on dragging, just like it did last year, and the year before that, and the year before that, and the year before that…ad infinitum.

Luckily for us, Toronto is one of the warmest Canadian cities. I feel people here gripe too much about the weather. Though, I have always felt that if you’re choosing to move to a new city, be sure that the residents don’t know the name of their weatherman. (Harold Hosein ring a bell for anyone?) Just never a wise idea if you have to turn on the television every morning to check the weather before you can dress yourself.

Hopefully in a couple of weeks we will pass the 20’s and evenings will be pleasant for a romantic stroll along the waterfront.

Here’s to warm weather!

cleaning up

I figured it was time to evict the pigeons off my balcony… again. I had tried last year, but my netting was not reaching high enough, so the birdies were flying in through the gap. I want to use my balcony now that the nice weather is on its way, so out they go!

I bought some PVC pipe to support netting, at the hardware megastore, this time, after measuring the height of the balcony ceiling. I cut them to size and secured them to the railings with those plastic tie things.

I can’t seem to get the netting to reach completely up to the ceiling. So the gap is just small enough to allow the pigeons to fly in, but not to fly out easily. So now they are flying into my neighbor’s netting-covered balcony, in search of a way out. Ooops. Sorry, neighbor.

However I was hopeful enough that I can keep improving my pigeon barrier, that I cleaned up all the pigeon poop.

go blue jays!

The Yanks are feeling a bit Blue. Go Jays.
