A Belated New Year’s Cheer
New Year’s Eve this year was a quiet and intimate gathering of good friends and several acquaintances we knew from dragon boating.
The setting took place in a beautiful and cozy house around Eglington and Bayview. Dinner was an assortment of goodies as the party started off with a potluck buffet. With the various ethnic backgrounds here in Toronto, the table was filled with different types of cultural yummies. Chinese, Vietnamese, Italian, East Indian, Spanish and of course, good ole North American food - just to name a few.
Our 11 month old daughter has never stayed up past 9:30pm, with her bedtime usually being around 8pm. A true experiment for my husband and I as we played it by ear.
Of course, the excitement was able to keep her up until sometime past 11pm, where her eye-rubbing and yawning (plus a tantrum or two) cued us to change her into her pj’s and head on home.
Five minutes into the car ride and the little one was out. So out that when we reached home, she stayed alseep as we took her out of the car seat and took her winter jacket off. She even stayed asleep with her head drooped on her father’s shoulders as we quickly popped over to my aunt and uncle’s unit (across from ours) to say ‘hello’ to my family.
My husband and I gave her sleepy forehead a kiss goodnight as we whispered good cheers for a happy new year. Laying her down in her crib, I was, for the first time, pleased to get a chance to have a new year countdown for two instead of being surrounded by people and party-noise makers.
Happy new year… here’s wishing all the best for all in the upcoming year!
